Have you wandered downtown looking for something a little different? Well, continue past the CNN Center and check out Castleberry Hill. Home to the restaurant broker offices, this great community features a diverse and intriguing group of food offerings. We spent a weekend checking out all the great food and drink in our neighborhood.
After a long week of selling restaurants, our first stop was No Mas Cantina for appetizers and a drink. This massive Mexican restaurant is a companion to their amazing story featuring artistic and beautiful home furnishings and decorative items. We munched on delicious nachos and cheese dip from the wonderful covered outdoor patio. The restaurant brokers had a great view of the massive margaritas being served to the tables around us. The number one seller appeared to be the Coronarita. This margarita with a “twist” features an upside down Corona bottle nestled in the classic glass that pours automatically into the margarita as you drink it. No Mas Cantina and their gift shop is located at 180 Walker St. SW in Atlanta.
Hungry for lunch, we went in search of sandwiches. For the freshest ingredients made fresh to order, stacked high with meat and served with an ice cold beer, there’s no better choice for restaurant brokers or anyone else in search of a sandwich than Elliott Street Pub. This tiny (8 seat bar) serves up the freshest bread and best sandwiches you can find along with a beer selection that boggles the mind. Owned by two brothers that epitomize a location where everyone knows your name, it’s a must see destination if you’re in downtown. Elliott Street Pub is at 51 Elliott Street Southwest in Atlanta right at the base of the newly opened Mitchell Street bridge. Check out items from their menu like Elliott Street Ultimate with Maple Glazed Honey Coat Ham, Mesquite Wood Smoked Breast of Turkey, Londonport Roast Beef, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, and Imported Swiss Cheese with mayonnaise and spicy mustard, and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, roasted peppers, and sweet peppers. Bread is always fresh and after eating one of these sandwiches, you’ll think you’ve been eating cardboard at those fast food sandwich shops.
Luckily the week the restaurant brokers were in search of great food in Castleberry Hill coincided with Flux, an annual arts festival featuring amazing performance arts on the streets. In addition to great art, beer trucks and parades, we were also treated to food trucks. The restaurant brokers observed one of the longest lines at The “Good Food Truck.” They were serving up items like their Curry Cone. This interesting and tasty treat consisted of a curry spiced waffle cone filled with curried chickpeas and rice. The Good Food truck didn’t stop there. They served a Parmesan cone filled with lentils roasted butternut squash and rice. The “cone” which looked like an ice cream style waffle cone was a unique way to serve great food and judging from the crowd response, it was a surefire winner.
The restaurant brokers ended the week of great food and drink in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood. We continue to be energized and excited by an industry that continues to put out great menu choices and inventive new choices to attract new customers.
